The 29-year-old actor, who portrays the 11th Doctor in the BBC1 series, regards his role as the 'greatest job on the planet' and takes inspiration from Shakespeare's Hamlet when he portrays the sci-fi character.
He told Marie Claire magazine: 'I compare it to Hamlet. Everyone who plays him has to give their creative version of that part.
'It's the greatest job on the planet and constantly allows for invention and ridiculousness. Any actor worth his salt can reinvent himself. In 10 years time I'll be playing very different parts.'
Matt has starred as the Time Lord for the past two series, but he is yet to be confirm whether or not he is going to reprise the role after the next season.
