How many more times can the Doctor regenerate?

  1. As far as I understood it, the Doctor Who movie will fix the issue so that Tennant & Smith's Doctors probably never existed - reverting back to the 8th/9th regen - and that's where the last series ended - that there is a dark past hidden -another Doctor. What fuels this is a YouTube clip from the BBC showing the making of the movie and the Tennant/Smith doctors meeting each other to agree to change something.
So if you remove two regenerations it leaves a clear enough path for a couple more actors to play the Doctor, yet.

  2. And didn't River Song give the doctor her remaining regenerations? Or were they all burned in preventing his death??

  3. Lungbarrow; The "Other" takes over a time lord body on the loom. The doctor is born and is called "snail" by his family because he has a naval while other time lords do not.

If he does run out of regenerations, I want to see the other emerge and find a new home.

  4. I think the No is endless. The Master was promised a new set in The 5 Drs therefore employing that the time lords and grant them somehow and it seems they gave him a new set before he entered the time war. Who's to say they didn't do that to all who fought. As for Hurt's Dr, this is what I think...

The 8th Dr did die, no rejeneration really died. Time Lords wanted the Dr to help with time war, so gave him new set of 12 Regens, which made Hurt no1 of a new set of 12. He didn't call himself The Dr and fought in the war mopping up war Criminals after like a bounty hunter. When he regenerates, he did so as Eccleston. This Dr was so full of guilt about what he did in the name of peace, he tried to forget his last (1st self in this new cycle of regenerations) and started to count on from old self ie Mcgann. So really matt is no 4 in new cycle of 13 if u see what I mean? Of course as the years go on new explanations will be brought in to prolong the Dr's life but if the show goes on for the next 50yrs half us us won't see what they will be!

  5. I think it is as limitless as the writers want it to be. The great thing about sci-fi/fantasy is that you can change the rules if you want to. My only hope is that they don't run the show into the ground, even if it means another long break when the time comes.

  6. I agree Pixie, I hope they don't run it into the ground which is the way I thought it was going to be honest. But hey, we have a new Doctor and I think he will be darker, more of a classical Doctor but I may be totally wrong lol
