Matt Smith In Appeal For Bone Marrow Donors

Doctor Who star Matt Smith has asked people to try and save the life of a teenage boy who urgently needs a bone marrow transplant.

Smith, soon to take over from current Time Lord David Tennant, is seeking a bone marrow match for 15-year-old Matt Herbert, who is suffering from leukaemia.

The 27-year-old actor grew up in the same road as Herbert, a keen rugby player and pupil at Northampton School for Boys.

Herbert was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in December 2008. He underwent treatment but found out the illness had returned in September.

He has since been told by doctors that he will only survive if he manages to have the transplant.

Smith, who will become the 11th doctor in the popular BBC sci fi show, is backing the Matt's Match campaign. via
