Peter Davison confirmed as host of UK Symphonic Spectacular Tour

Fifth Doctor actor Peter Davison has been confirmed as the host of a six-city UK tour of the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular in May 2015.
In addition, given the very strong demand for tickets, a second matinee performance has been confirmed for the SSE Arena, Wembley, on Sunday 24 May.
The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular, which celebrates the world’s longest running science fiction TV series, showcases the evocative and thrilling music written by Murray Gold for the series since 2005 and features over 100 performers including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and members of the BBC National Chorus of Wales, conducted by Ben Foster. The first ever UK tour will be staged in London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow in May 2015.
Peter Davison, who portrayed the Fifth Doctor on the BBC One series between 1981 and 1984, acted as presenter for the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular in Australia and New Zealand at the beginning of 2014 and will reprise this role in 2015.

The Caves of Androzani is voted best Doctor Who story

THE Caves of Androzani has been voted the top Doctor Who TV tale in a new poll.

The story gained the highest score in a poll in Doctor Who Magazine, in which 6,700 people took part.

It aired in four episodes in March 1984 and marked the last appearance of 5th Doctor Peter Davison and the first appearance of the 6th incarnation played by Colin Baker. more

Terileptils

Terileptils were a space-faring reptilian species well-known for possessing a great love for art and beauty which is matched only by their great love of war. Terileptils possessed a highly sophisticated technology. Dependent on Soliton gas, they perfected atmospheric processors which can synthesize and release needed amounts of the gas into the immediate area, allowing them to function in alien atmospheres lacking this vital component. They are familiar with the fairly common use of vintaric crystals as a means of artificial lighting, and the use of holographic energy barriers. Terileptilan technology makes heavy use of polygrite and highly charged power packs. They do not appear to have knowledge of time travel, but were certainly familiar with the concept. Terileptils are especially noted for their use of androids, as guards, soldiers, and servitors.

Mara

The Mara was an entity which tempted and bullied beings into allowing it to possess them. In physical form, it manifested as a giant snake or as a snake-shaped mark on the arm.

The Mara was an entity created from the evil in the minds of the people of the planet Manussa in the Scrampus system. It and given independent life via the Great Crystal, which the Manussans created in a zero gravity environment. The Mara then founded the Sumaran Empire. (DW: Snakedance) It existed in the minds of its victims and can transfer itself in the form of a tattoo-like mark, to those who yielded to it. It was so evil that it cannot bear the sight of its own reflection. In the Dark Places of the Inside, it manifested as Dukkha, Anatta, and Annica.

Monarch

The Monarch was the ruler of the Urbankan race. He was obsessed with discovering the secret of faster-then-light travel. He believed that by doing so he would go back in time to the creation of the Universe and meet God, whom he believed would be himself.

Monarch first left Urbanka circa 55,500 BC and arrived at Earth circa 35,500 BC, where he abducted Kurkutji and other Australian aborigines. Returning to Urbanka circa 25,500 BC, he returned to Earth circa 15,500 BC, where he abducted Villagra and other Mayans. Returning to Urbanka circa 10,500 BC, he returned to Earth circa 5500 BC, where he abducted Lin Futu and other Chinese people. Returning to Urbanka circa 3000 BC, he returned to Earth circa 500 BC, where he abducted Bigon and other Greeks. After returning to Urbanka for the last time in 731, he began his final journey to Earth, which he planned to colonize with his people, but was defeated by the Doctor four days before arriving there in 1981.

Mawdryn

Mawdryn was the leader of a group of scientists that tried to discover the Time Lords' secret of regeneration. They stole a metamorphic symbiosis regenerator and used it on themselves, only to find that their immortality was one of unending mutation and regeneration. They were exiled from their world and their spaceship entered a warp ellipse.

Three thousand years later, in 1977, Mawdryn tried to force the Doctor to give up his remaining regenerations so that the mutated beings could use the resulting energy to end their lives. Fortunately, this turned out to not be necessary, as the Brigadier from 1977 and the Brigadier from 1983 made physical contact with each other, resulting in a discharge of temporal energy that was enough to allow Mawdryn and his companions to die.
