Doctor Who Christmas special: David Bradley admits he's nervous for 'emotional' episode

PETER CAPALDI is bowing out of Doctor Who in this year's Christmas special and one actor has admitted that they are nervous about taking on the famous Time Lord role.

The final moments of the show will see Jodie Whittaker replace Peter, 59, as the Gallifreyan.
However, there will be a total of three Doctors in the festive episode.
David Bradley is adopting the part of the First Doctor, originally played by William Hartnell, and is anxious about the responsibility the role brings.
“I never thought for a moment that I’d be asked to do an episode as the Doctor, let alone the big Christmas one,” the 75-year-old actor confessed in an interview with TV Times.

David first starred as actor William Hartnell in the BBC drama An Adventure in Space and Time back in 2013.
“Before I felt a responsibility to get it right for William and his family, but now I feel like I need to get it right for the fans,” he continued.
This year’s Christmas special, Twice Upon A Time, will see the First Doctor come face to face with the 13th incarnation.
The two meet in the South Pole and are joined by former Tardis companion Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) and the Captain (Mark Gatiss), a WWI soldier.

When a glass lady appears with a warning from the past, the group embark on an exciting adventure.
David revealed emotions were high as Peter filmed his final scenes.
“At one point Peter and I looked at each other and I wondered who was going to well up first!” he divulged.
“Peter has been a wonderful Doctor and it was an honour to be a part of his final appearance.”
The eleventh season is expected to return with Jodie, 35, as the thirteenth Doctor in Autumn 2018.

The Canadian-born actor is known for his roles in such films as War of the Worlds, and roles in television shows, American Gothic and Orphan Black (pictured below).
Who he is playing remains a mystery, but we do know he’ll be starring alongside Peter Capaldi, The Twelfth Doctor, and Matt Lucas, who returns as Nardole after his outing in last year’s special, The Husbands of River Song.

Christmas Special: Santa is Real, Not Evil

To allay any parental concerns Steven Moffat has said that the Santa Claus presented in the upcoming Christmas special will be ‘real’ and is definitely not evil.

Speaking at the Series 8 DVD launch, he said: “Santa could never be evil, for heaven’s sake! Santa is both real and a Christmas hero.”

“No no, don’t worry any parents who were worried about that. Santa is presented, as he is in real life, as a great Christmas hero.”

On Nick Frost’s casting in the role: “He actually is the real Santa. He’s been faking it up until now. For the first time he’s allowing the natural colour of his beard to show through.”

He added: “You could figure it out, you know, Nick Frost, Nicholas Frost – you see?”

Nick Frost to guest star in 2014 Doctor Who Christmas Special

Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost, Natalie Gumede, Faye Marsay, Nathan McMullen and Michael Troughton will join Peter Capaldi and his companion Jenna Coleman in the 2014 Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Production on the episode has begun, with a host of British acting talent set to appear. The Christmas special, a cracker of a highlight in the festive season’s schedule, promises to be an action-packed, unmissable adventure.

Nick Frost, actor and screenwriter, has starred in numerous hit film and television roles, including Spaced, The World’s End, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Cuban Fury and Paul, which he also wrote.
Nick comments: “I'm so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the Doctor Who Christmas Special,

I'm such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream 'No spoilers!' Every day on set I’ve had to silence my internal fan-boy squeals!"

Peter Capaldi – The Fourteenth Doctor?

The Scottish accent ran out clear towards the end of The Day Of The Doctor. “No sir! All thirteen!” as eyebrows narrowed.

But, according to the Daily Mirror, that was Fourteen.

They quote Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat confirming what Bleeding Cool ran earlier, that Matt Smith is not the Eleventh, nor the Twelfth but the final Thirteenth incarnation of the Time Lord that mostly goes by the name of The Doctor, including the War Doctor and the One-Hearted Rose Doctor. And that Peter Capaldi somehow breaches the natural order of things and becomes the Fourteenth Doctor…
Asked about the Christmas episode and the regeneration of Doctor Who, Moffat confirmed Matt was the 13th Doctor and told the Mirror: “The 12 regenerations limit is a central part of Doctor Who mythology – science fiction is all about rules, you can’t just casually break them. “So if the Doctor can never change again, what’s Peter Capaldi doing in the Christmas special?”
