The Crystal Maze To Return To Television With David Tennant As Host

he Crystal Maze is to return to our television screens this autumn after 21 years off air. The problem-solving game show, which ran from 1990 to 1995, is returning to Channel 4 in October with the former Doctor Who actor David Tennant reportedly lined up to follow the footsteps of Richard O’Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole as the host. The classic game show will form part of Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer night, with celebrities as the contestants.

"Even two decades after it last aired, there are very few shows that have been as magical and action-packed as The Crystal Maze. It is still remembered extremely fondly today," a source told The Sun. "Channel 4 are hoping to tap into that nostalgia and believe viewers will jump at the chance to finally take on the show’s adventurous challenges themselves."

A New Doctor Who Companion Has Been Cast

Speaking to Brazilian website Omelete, Peter Capaldi stated that the BBC has cast a new companion for the Doctor, and we will know who it is very soon. Capaldi says that this companion will most definitely not be another Clara:

Clara had prior knowledge of the Doctor. (She) was conceived as a human connected to your timeline, and so had access to the cosmic nature of the Doctor. She understood a little about how he was. And as she was already with Matt (Smith), she knew the Daleks and the TARDIS. Now we have someone who knows very little about the Doctor.

 Capaldi says that he has met the new companion, but that is all the info we have for now. It’s not like he’ll get much time with his new companion anyhow – Capaldi will be leaving the show in the not too distant future.

Brand-New Monster for the Newest Season of ‘Doctor Who’ - Block 3

The BBC has officially announced that the Doctor from Doctor Who and his faithful companion Clara will be facing a brand-new monster named Block 3 in the newest season of the long-running series. Block 3, who bears a striking resemblance to the Big Daddy character from the popular video game BioShock, is scheduled to first show its face in episodes five and six during the same time that Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams will be guest starring on the show.

Doctor Who: The World Tour takes Capaldi, Coleman and Moffat around the globe

Following on from last year's global smash-hit 50th anniversary, BBC Worldwide announce a major global publicity tour to launch the new series of Doctor Who and introduce Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor.

The tour marks the largest ever promotional undertaking in Doctor Who’s 50-year history and will kick off in Welsh capital and home of the series' production, Cardiff, before taking in London (UK), Seoul (South Korea), Sydney (Australia), New York (US), Mexico City (Mexico) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

The BBC Almost Axed Doctor Who When David Tennant Quit

Current Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed that the BBC thought about finishing Doctor Who when David Tennant quit his role as the Doctor.

Steven who was speaking at a Q&A session at the Hay Festival in Wales told the audience: 

"David owned that role in a spectacular way, gave it an all-new cheeky sexy performance and became a national treasure. And he didn't do it instantly, he did it over time. So the idea that Doctor Who could go on at all in the absence of David was a huge question, I didn't realise how many people thought it wouldn't succeed at all. That was quite terrifying when I found out about it later.

I think there were plans maybe to consider ending it. It was Russell saying, you are not allowed to end it."

New Doctor Lands In August

BBC “Thrilled” With Early Peter Capaldi Episodes

The BBC is said to be “delighted” and "thrilled" with the first episodes of Peter Capaldi’s Doctor Who.

Around five are understood to have been completed and a source on the show says that Capaldi looks on course to “make one of the best Doctors ever”.

RadioTimes.com understands that the storylines have started from "the bottom up” with Capaldi’s Doctor having a clean slate of storylines with little reference to his predecessors.

"He is his own man – very distinctive," said the source.
The further good news for fans is that the chemistry between Capaldi and Coleman is said to be “sizzling”.

“He is the oldest Doctor and there is a sense he is more distanced from his assistant, more of a mystery He is perhaps less a mate, and someone she looks up to. She has to try and gauge him – but dramatically it’s very satisfying and onscreen they work very well together.”
