Zygons

Zygons were solidly built humanoids with large, cone-shaped heads. Their heads, arms and torsos were covered in suckers, and they had deeply inset faces. Zygons had dark red blood and spoke in a gurgling whisper. Zygons were stronger then humans and could live for several centuries. They also had an earthy, iron smell. Zygons had the ability to sting people using venomous barbs on their palms. These stings could be used to stun, maim or kill, and would leave severe welts on the affected area.

Young Zygons were called hatchlings and were slimy and pale with shorter limbs. Hatchlings were mute, but much faster than adults.

Zygons had a very deeply ingrained fear of fire.

Carrionites

The Carrionites were species of humanoid beings that used word-based science or "witchcraft" to reshape reality.


The true form of a Carrionite resembled a female with wrinkled skin and large clawed hands. Inside their mouths were sharp canine teeth. However, Carrionites could assume a near-Human form, and the Carrionite Lilith was able to assume the form of a beautiful young woman, a trick she used to ensnare male victims.

The Carrionites that were summoned by the final lines of Love's Labours Won were even more horrific, with no visible legs, massive claws, beak-like noses and hooked chins


They placed great importance on the knowing the names of an individual, which would allow them to take control of them. The Carrionites also appear to be possess some unknown ability to discover a person's true name; although Lilith was in the room when the Doctor and Martha Jones introduce themselves to Shakespeare she later remarks "there is no name" when trying to name the Doctor.

Slabs

Slabs were robotic beings, typically androids, used by various races, typically criminals, as basic slave drones. They tended to travel in pairs. They had a vague form as to not provoke suspicion, but their attitude and internal anatomy were very different - they obeyed the commands of their master, they disrespected other beings, did not speak and had the same composition all the way through.


For example, the Slabs used by a Plasmavore, Florence Finnegan, on Earth (and, due to the Judoon's intervention, on the Moon as well) looked like motorcycle couriers dressed in black, but they never delivered anything and were composed entirely of leather, except for their helmets.

They could be "killed" by sufficiently high levels of radiation, or advanced energy weapons.

Empress of the Racnoss

The Empress of the Racnoss was the leader of the Racnoss Empire, an empire destroyed by the Gallifreyans over 4.6 billion years ago. She was the only Racnoss to survive and not hibernate in the Earth's core, but instead thrived in her ship, the Webstar, orbiting Earth for billions of years until the Torchwood Institute developed Huon particles with which she could revive her race.


The Empress was encountered by the Doctor on Christmas Day 2007 in a secret location under the Thames Barrier, trying to awaken her long-dead race (whom she called "her children") with the Huon energy within the bodies of Donna Noble and Lance Bennett after being fed it within drinks, being given coffee and water respectively. Lance was originally affiliated with the Empress, however after the disappearance of Donna after being taken by the Doctor she sent Lance to the centre of the Earth where the Racnoss spaceship was, and the Huon particles awoke the Racnoss who then proceeded to feast on Lance.

Her plans to revive the Racnoss were foiled by the Doctor when he used controls stolen from a Robot Santa to stop the Santas shooting him and to bring bombs disguised as baubles from a Robotic Christmas Tree flying around the secret room and then detonating, crashing into pipes, thereby letting the Thames flood into the room and surrounding the Empress with fire, and then finally drowning the Racnoss with the Thames water.

The Empress then transmatted up to her Webstar and vowed revenge on the Doctor and all of planet Earth by scorching it, however the lack of Huon energy left the Webstar defenceless and allowed the British Army to destroy it, presumably destroying both the Webstar and the Empress.

Cult of Skaro

The Cult of Skaro, named for the Dalek homeworld, was a secret group of four Daleks—three Standard Daleks and one Black Dalek—assigned the task of furthering the Dalek cause through the development of new and unorthodox ideas and strategies. The leader of the Cult claimed that it was created primarily to further the process of Dalek evolution. Their willingness to adopt alien modes of thought was demonstrated by the fact that they had individual names, a concept most Daleks found abhorrent. Led by Sec, the Black Dalek, they answered to no one, not even the Dalek Emperor, although they still revered him.

The Cult of Skaro were at first just four ordinary Daleks. Dalek Sec was a commander of a Dalek group sent to wipe out the remnants of the Mechanoids which they succeeded in doing. After doing this all four of them were ordered by the Dalek Emperor to return to him. They arrived and were promoted to become the Cult of Skaro. They were then given their names and Dalek Sec was elected as their leader

Isolus

The Isolus were tiny empathic beings which resembled white flowers with streaming tendrils. They travelled via solar winds.

Isolus were originally born as spores by their mothers. These Isolus would travel through space in heat-powered pods and would grow for thousands of years until they reach their adulthood, and, in order to pass the time, used their ionic power to project fantasy worlds to play in. The ionic power of an Isolus to create these virtual worlds could also bring inanimate objects, such as drawings, to life, as well as transform living things into drawings. These young Isolus also required strong emotions, specifically love, to survive. Isolus travelled in groups of around 4 billion and required constant companionship to feed off the love of their siblings.


In year 2012, one Isolus was separated from its siblings after a solar flare. It landed on Earth and searched for heat and a friend. It was able to find Chloe Webber, another lonely child. Chloe swallowed the Isolus. Inside Chloe's body, the spore granted Chloe its ionic powers. One child was not enough for the Isolus, though, it tried to use its powers to find more friends.

Michelle Ryan spotted filming in Cardiff

Filming on the streets of Cardiff was former Bionic Woman Michelle Ryan, who was wrapped up in a sleek leather jacket to play the mysterious Lady Christina de Souza in Doctor Who. The 24-year-old actress, who shot to fame in the BBC1 soap EastEnders playing Zoe Slater from 2000 until 2005, was decked out all in black as she filmed an episode of the cult sci-fi hit at a secret Cardiff location on Thursday night.

Buses, there's never one when you need one...

Spring special threatened by a broken-down bus.
Filming of the Spring Special has been hit by bad luck and Russel T Davis is having to re-write some of "The Planet of the Dead". The bus that was shipped overseas seems to have been so badly damaged that it can't be used in the filming of the special. Read more here...

The Beast

The Beast was a colossal demon locked away in the heart of planet Krop Tor. He said that he had many names, including Satan, and claimed to be the essence of all Devil-like figures in religion and myth. He also claimed to have been imprisoned since before the universe.



The Beast could manifest himself through electronic media, including computer voices and, crudely through hologram viewers. Its mind could leave its body and possess a single hive mind of the Ood collectively or a single Human individually, though not more than one at one time. He had the power of telepathy and, through a host, telekinesis. Possession of a human subject affected the host's skin, causing strange markings to appear all over their face and body; and vocal chords, allowing them to speak with different pitches simultaneously. Whether a single human or a hive mind, the eyes of those possessed by the beast glowed a fiery red. The Beast could also project fire from his mouth. His hosts could also physically survive in a vacuum indefinitely. The Doctor realized that the Beast, or the Devil, or Satan was "an idea in the minds of men", and not a physical form, and that is why it could manifest into others, and could survive indefinitely after the destruction of its body.
