Sisterhood of Karn

The Sisterhood of Karn was a female society dedicated to protecting the Sacred Flame, which produced the Elixir of Life.

The Sisterhood was a remnant of the Pythia's power.

The Sisterhood entered into the Pact of Rassilon for protection under Gallifrey they also fought against Morbius when he attempted to invade Karn.

When the Sacred Flame appeared to be dying, the Sisterhood suspected the Doctor of trying to steal the remaining Elixir, but later helped him defeat Morbius.

After Romana became President of Gallifrey, she opened diplomatic relations with the Sisterhood.

They were instrumental in the Eighth Doctor's regeneration. (The Night of the Doctor 2013)

Haemovores

Haemovores were a species of vampire-like humanoids that evolved from Humans. They fed on the blood of Humans, though they could also survive in sea water, which had a similar salt content.


The Haemovores were known to have abnormal strength and power. They had the ability to climb sheer surfaces with ease. They were resistant to bullets and could only be killed by a stake to the heart. The Haemovores had razor-sharp claws which they used to kill people. Haemovores could weld metal with their hands and older Haemovores built up armour made out metal they collected and melted together. The Haemovores could be stopped with strong faith, which would create a psychic barrier. In the presence of the barrier they often respond with ear-splitting shrieks.

The Haemovores communicated with each other telepathically, which could be detected by telepathic Humans. They could also telepathically control Humans to a degree, making them easier to feed on. They were all controlled by Ingiger, who could kill them with a thought

Morestrans

The TARDIS picks up a distress call and the Doctor and Sarah arrive on the planet Zeta Minor. There they discover that a Morestran geological expedition has fallen prey to an unseen killer and only the leader, Professor Sorenson, remains alive.

A military mission from Morestra has also arrived to investigate. The culprit is revealed to be a creature from a universe of antimatter, retaliating for the removal by Sorenson of some antimatter samples from around the pit that acts as an interface between the two universes.

The Morestrans take off in their ship, but it is slowly dragged back towards the planet due to the antimatter on board. Sorenson himself becomes infected by antimatter and gradually transforms into antiman, a monster capable of draining the life from others.

The Morestran commander, the increasingly unhinged Salamar, attacks Sorenson with a radiation source but this only causes him to produce multiple anti-matter versions of himself, which soon overrun the ship. The Doctor finds the original Sorenson, takes him back to the planet in the TARDIS and throws both him and his samples into the pit, fulfilling a bargain he earlier made with the anti-matter creature. Sorenson reappears unharmed, and the Doctor returns him to the Morestran ship, which is now freed of the planet's influence.

Monarch

The Monarch was the ruler of the Urbankan race. He was obsessed with discovering the secret of faster-then-light travel. He believed that by doing so he would go back in time to the creation of the Universe and meet God, whom he believed would be himself.

Monarch first left Urbanka circa 55,500 BC and arrived at Earth circa 35,500 BC, where he abducted Kurkutji and other Australian aborigines. Returning to Urbanka circa 25,500 BC, he returned to Earth circa 15,500 BC, where he abducted Villagra and other Mayans. Returning to Urbanka circa 10,500 BC, he returned to Earth circa 5500 BC, where he abducted Lin Futu and other Chinese people. Returning to Urbanka circa 3000 BC, he returned to Earth circa 500 BC, where he abducted Bigon and other Greeks. After returning to Urbanka for the last time in 731, he began his final journey to Earth, which he planned to colonize with his people, but was defeated by the Doctor four days before arriving there in 1981.

Salamander

Ramón Salamander (more usually known simply as Salamander) attempted to take over the planet Earth in the 21st century.

Salamander came from Merida in the Yucatan in Mexico. Both a respected politician and a scientist, Salamander received worldwide acclaim for his invention of Sun Store technology to beam sunlight from Earth orbit in order to help the growth of crops and alleviate global hunger on an overpopulated planet. Secretly, he also committed murders of officials in order to ensure his goal of world domination so he could replace them with other officials that Salamander could trust. With a team of scientists, who he had tricked into working for him, he created "natural" disasters such as volcanos and earthquakes happen at will.

From his palace in the Central European Zone, Salamander attempted the domination of the planet Earth. (During this time, instead of nations, the planet had divided itself into a number of Zones.) Salamander bore an almost exact resemblance to the Doctor, enabling him to impersonate him so as to ensure his downfall.

After he invaded the TARDIS disguised as the Doctor, the real Doctor expelled him into the Time Vortex. Nevertheless, Salamander still survived, helpless in the Vortex.

Mandragora Helix

An energy being, the Mandragora Helix took over Human hosts. The Mandragora Helix originated in the Dark Times.

The Helix slipped inside the Doctor's TARDIS and traveled in it to late 15th century San Martino in Italy. Here it manipulated the local cult of Demnos, led by Hieronymous. It took over the cult's members, transforming them into energy beings able to kill with bolts of plasma.

It manifested again in 1863 China, where the Doctor confronted the Helix without fully understanding it, as the Helix encountered him in an earlier point in the Doctor's personal timeline.

As the the Doctor had earlier predicted, the Mandragora Helix re-appeared in 1990s London, this time exploiting the use of an illegal drug called Mandrake (another name for Mandragora). The Doctor and Ace, with the help of UNIT and Captain Muriel Frost, in particular put a stop to it.

In May 2009, the Helix reappeared in London, using the MorganTec computer systems company to spread its energy. The Doctor and Donna Noble, with help from Wilfred Mott, were able to stop it.

Aggedor

The Aggedors were large, powerful creatures, like bears with the heads of boars. They had bony heads with a single horn on their forehead. They also had powerful tusks and sharp claws. Since they lived in the caves of Peladon, they had poor eyesight and relied more on their sense of smell.

Aggedors could be hypnotised by the use of flashing lights or music. They could also be trained in the normal way.

Black Guardian

The Black Guardian is an anthropomorphic personification of the forces of entropy and chaos, the counterpart of the White Guardian, a personification of order. The two Guardians balance out the forces in the universe, although the Black Guardian seems to desire to upset the balance in favour of chaos and evil while the White Guardian prefers to maintain the status quo. The Guardians both appeared in Season 16 of the programme, where all six serials of that season were linked together in the quest for the Key to Time, an artifact of immense power that would give the wielder supreme power over all existence.

Voord

The Voord, led by Yartek, sought to take control of the Conscience Machine, thus taking control of the planet, but were defeated by the Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara.

The Voords began experimenting with a World Shaper which came from a spacefaring civilization to accelerate time locally and "quick-evolve" themselves. Over time they replaced there body parts with cybernetic parts.

The Doctor, Frobisher, Peri Brown and Jamie McCrimmon attempted to stop the Voord. Jamie sacrificed himself to destroy the World Shaper, this caused a blast that accelerated time so much that Marius that became known as Mondas and the Voord evolved into entirely Cybernetic creatures called Cybermen.

The Valeyard

Other than a cryptic hint as to the Valeyard's origins as the Doctor's future self (or part of his self), we do not know the origins of the Valeyard.

The Valeyard served as the prosecutor during the trial of the Doctor. He presented extracts from the Matrix depicting past events in the Doctor's life as evidence of the Doctor violating the non-interference policy of the Time Lords. Later in the trial he added a charge of genocide against the Vervoids.

The Valeyard had secretly tampered with the Matrix extracts to show the Doctor in the worst possible light and steer the trial to a guilty verdict. The Valeyard was acting on behalf of the High Council to cover up the Ravolox affair. As payment, the Valeyard was to have received the Doctor's remaining regenerations. It was The Master who stepped in and revealed the Valeyard's true origins.


The Valeyard escaped into the Matrix via the Seventh Door, which he opens using a copy of the Key of Rassilon. He is pursued and finally defeated by the Doctor when an explosion the Valeyard had intended to destroy the court is fed back into the Matrix due to the Doctor's tampering.

However, as Inquisitor Darkel dismissed the trial and the Doctor and his companion departed, the Valeyard was also present, disguised as the Keeper of the Matrix.

Family of Blood

The Family of Blood were green, gaseous entities that could inhabit and control Human bodies. Before taking human form, the members of the Family of Blood were kept in small, spherical receptacles. They had very short-lifespans, lasting only 3 months.


The members that were chasing the Doctor were made of a mother, father, son and daughter. While in Human form the Family could telepathically communicate together from a distance. They also had incredible sense of smell, tracking The Doctor where ever the TARDIS took him with his scent. They also had access to the Host's memory, though they had some difficulty pretending to be Humans.

The Family utilised a spacecraft, that held their 'essence' within it prior to them assuming human form. It had a variety of paddle like switches and other devices. The spacecraft could be rendered invisible.

The Family of Blood used energy weapons that fired a green energy that disintegrated humanoid tissue. They were somewhat difficult for humanoids to hold.

The Family also had scarecrow-like soldiers created by the son and placed into various fields. They were composed of straw, their molecules animated via a scientific process. Even after being shot down, they could still reanimate by the command of the Family.
